A Message Sent on Behalf of the JRMS Science Olympiad Team

Posted Date: 01/12/26 (10:59 AM)

The Science Olympiad has a team of roughly 24 students at JRMS who have been working hard to prepare for the upcoming state competition in March.  Students become experts in a few areas and work with a partner to represent the team, with the final scores determining the team's overall placement.  This past weekend we scored 11 out of 43 teams, taking home medals in 10 out of 23 events at the Blue Dragon Invitational.

As we gear up for our next competition at Harvard, our amazing coach, John Lo, is looking for parents or community members who can support our students and help them in the following areas:

1. Remote Sensing (GIS, satellite imagery interpretation, map projections)
2. Crime Busters (qualitative analysis, powders, chromatography, lab tests)
3. Boomilever (statics, truss design, compression/tension, load testing)
4. Circuit Lab (breadboards, Ohm’s law, series/parallel, troubleshooting)
5. Potions & Poisons (solution chemistry, acids/bases, molarity, lab safety)
6. Metric Mastery (unit conversions, dimensional analysis, speed & accuracy drills)

If you or if you know of anyone who can offer some support to the kids in these areas in person or through virtual support that would be greatly appreciated.

The team meets in person on most Mondays and Thursdays at JRMS from 4-6pm.

Thanks for your help and support! You can contact Coach Lo at bigfootonfire@gmail.com
